YOUR CATCH
In the Maldives, a diverse array of fish awaits your line, our fishing expeditions cater to every angler’s dream.
Giant Trevally (10-30 kg)
The Giant Trevally (GT) is the strongest fish relative to its size. It stands out for its incredible strength and aggressiveness, surpassing other carangids. It is popular among anglers for its sporting nature: it attacks surface lures and shows impressive strength. The fights are short but intense.
Yellowfin Tuna (15-70 KG)
The yellowfin tuna is an excellent sport fish, known for its impressive surface attacks and immense power. Fights with this fish are violent and explosive, as it needs to stay in motion. Facing a yellowfin tuna is an incredible experience for any angler.
Wahoo (20-40 KG)
The Wahoo is known for its aggressiveness, attacking bait and lures from behind at high speed with its sharp teeth. It can reach speeds of 80-90 km/h, putting massive stress on fishing gear and often stripping over 400 yards of line in seconds. Anglers must quickly reel in to avoid losing the fish. Fast-moving lures increase the chance of a catch.
Sail Fish (20-60 KG)
The Sailfish, coveted in sport fishing, is famed for its speed—up to 90kg and 3m long, with a distinctive dorsal fin. Found offshore, it reaches speeds of 109 km/hr, making for thrilling battles with acrobatic jumps when hooked. Imagine the thrill of reeling one in!
Red Snapper (3-10 KG)
Adults can reach up to 1 meter in length and weigh up to 20 kilograms. With a robust body and vibrant red color, plus red or golden eyes, catching a Red Snapper is a dual victory in both fight and beauty. Highly prized by sport fishermen, their strong, enduring battles test both angler skill and the fish's tenacity. Known for aggression, once hooked, they vigorously engage, using their muscular strength to provide a prolonged and intense fight.
Ruby Snapper (8-10KG)
The Ruby Snapper, adorned in vibrant red hues, thrives in dark waters around 100-300m deep, often near rocky bottoms, corals, or structures in large numbers. They can reach up to 120 cm and 25 kg. When hooked, their powerful fights demand patience; allow them to run and avoid rushing. With persistence and calm, pumping steadily, the reward will come.
Black Snoek (3-6 KG)
The Black Snoek resembles a barracuda with a slender, elongated body. It's dark grey to black on top and lighter below, with sharp teeth and a prominent mouth. Found in coastal waters, it surprises in deep and shallow areas, offering thrilling fights with acrobatic jumps and swift sprints when hooked.
Coral Trout (1-5 KG)
Coral Trout are famed for their vibrant colors—reds, blues, greens, or yellows—varying by species and habitat. They blend with coral reefs using spots or patterns. Growing up to 120 cm, they're swift predators. Hook one near its lair and it'll test your skill with a rapid, fierce fight. Quick reactions are key to pulling them from their comfort zone. Each trout boasts a unique, spectacular appearance.
Amber Jack (8-15 KG)
The Amberjack features an elongated, laterally compressed body with a large, pointed head and a terminal mouth. Its color ranges from deep blue-green on the back to shiny silver on the sides and belly, often with golden or yellow stripes when young. Known for endurance, it offers thrilling sport fishing battles lasting minutes to hours.
Yellowspot Trevally (1-5 KG)
Slightly compressed body with silver color and yellow spots. It can reach 90 cm but is often smaller. Known for powerful runs and endurance, it's prized in sport fishing. Often found in schools, they provide thrilling action when caught with light jigging rods.
Bluefin Trevally (2-8 KG)
Cousin to the giant trevally, is a spectacular fish with electric blue fins and sides adorned with blue, black, and brown spots, resembling artwork. They can weigh up to 40 kg and reach lengths of 1 meter, though this size is uncommon in our waters. That thrilling moment when it strikes and starts a heart-pounding run is when you think, "I've got my trophy." Often, these athletes exceed expectations in strength, though their size may disappoint visually. They are prized for their impressive size-to-power ratio—a true gem of the sea.
Job Fish (1-5 KG)
It has an elongated, robust body with colors ranging from greenish-blue to gray. Its dorsal and caudal fins are typically darker. It can reach lengths of up to 1 meter (about 39 inches) and weigh up to 18 kg (around 40 pounds). It is carnivorous and aggressive in nature, often found in deep waters and commonly caught using jigs. Its fighting style depends heavily on its size, delivering strong bites followed by head shakes and powerful runs.
Pomfret (1 KG)
It has a laterally compressed body and an oval shape. Its color ranges from dark gray to black. It can reach a length of up to 75 cm (about 30 inches) and weigh up to 8 kg (around 22 pounds). Pomfrets are known to put up a decent fight when caught. Though not as powerful as other game fish, they provide a satisfying struggle with quick runs and occasional sharp movements, though their endurance is not as high as larger fish.
Grouper (5-15 KG)
Within this family, there is a great variety of sizes and colors, with robust bodies and huge heads. Similar to coral trout, they inhabit around corals and structures. If your lure falls nearby, a challenging fight awaits. A giant grouper can reach 2.5 meters and over 200 kg.
Shark
It is not often the most sought-after species, but you often encounter them. Attracted by your lures or prey, they can make you lose the catch. Tip: reinforce your gear if they break hooks or fish. With patience, you can catch large specimens like nurse and tiger sharks. The fight is exhausting due to their weight and swimming ability.
